Birmingham Flights
Birmingham Flights have been
operating from Birmingham airport since 1939 when Birmingham
airport was opened by Birmingham city council. International
flights from Birmingham were introduced and in 1984 the new
terminal building was opened with capacity for three million
passengers. In 1987 the airport’s ownership transferred to
Birmingham International Airport plc, which is owned by the
seven West Midland’s district councils. In July 1991 the second
terminal “the Eurohub” opened which combined domestic and
international flights passengers. This means that passengers
don’t have to travel far between connecting flights in fact the
furthest you have to walk is two hundred and fifty metres.
There have been many other improvements since then and
passenger numbers continue to rise as new flights are added
from Birmingham.
There are almost forty different airlines with flights from
Birmingham airport. There are over 120 different flight
destinations from Birmingham from Aberdeen to Zurich with
airlines such as Air France, Bmibaby, KLM, Thomsonfly and
Flybe.
Birmingham Airport is located eight miles east of Birmingham.
There are a few ways to get to the airport including the usual
favourites such as coach, airport taxi and trains. If you are
driving to the airport by car and plan to leave you vehicle at
the airport Birmingham parking is best pre-booked as you will
save up to sixty percent by booking in advance. There are five
parking areas including the short stay car park, which is more
expensive to put people off from staying for long durations.
Make sure you use the correct car park or you could come back
from your holiday to a nasty car park bill.
Airport security these days is a very serious issue and
Birmingham Airport takes security very seriously. There is
almost three hundred security staff employed by the airport to
ensure the airport complies with all its regulatory obligations
and to make Birmingham airport as safe as possible. Please make
sure you check out the current rules on hand luggage prior to
setting off on your Birmingham flight as this will reduce any
inconvenience you may subsequently encounter at the airport.
Make sure you have appropriate identification with you even if
you are travelling within the UK. All the airlines require you
to have some form of photographic identification, which must
match up with the name on the ticket for your
flight.
